Global, USA and Australian industry leaders discuss the drivers and challenges to mainstream the global space economy

April 13th, 2019

CSIRO US, Australia’s pre-eminent national science organization, in partnership with the Australian Space Agency, today announced that on April 12, 2019, it co-hosted their first roundtable on the future of global space commercialization.

The roundtable participants included thought leaders from such major actors as JPL, Accel and Koolocks. The partnership with the Australian Space Agency focuses on new technologies that further the commercialization of space and triple the size of the Australian space industry by 2030.

Following the roundtable session, CSIRO US and the newly created Australian Space Agency co-hosted a luncheon reception for over 60 investors, start-ups, scientists, industry experts, Australian government representatives and Fortune 100 aerospace companies focused on expanding the USA and Australian open innovation ecosystem to commercialize space.

“Australia has a long tradition of space initiatives from satellites to communication,” said Susan Lucas-Conwell, Executive Vice President of CSIRO US.

“Our partnership with the Australian Space Agency, as their technology partner, positions CSIRO to play a key role in driving the future of space commercialization.”

The roundtable and reception comes on the heels of CSIRO US’s participation in the 35th Annual Space Symposium held in Colorado Springs, CO. CSIRO sponsored the G’Day reception organized by DFAT, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, providing opening remarks and participating in the panel of experts that included Sarah Pearce, Deputy Director of CASS.
